Though less predominant nowadays, the government and independant accrediting boards continue to recognize several official affiliations. Colleges and universities that were founded based on the beliefs and ceremonies of one of over 50 churches. Many of these institutions still hold their affiliated religious and cultural values in high regard.

Together, fully recognized tribal colleges and universities educate approximately 30,000 full and part-time students of predominantly Native American descent.
